Day Four | Pictures | Day Six

One of the churches in Tepoztlan.

Kneeling: Albert, Katie and Brad Standing: Tomas, Richard, Kristen, Amy, Allison and Kinnon. The group poses at the foot of the trail heading up to the pyramid of Tepoztlan. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into...

After a VERY difficult climb to the top a colony of possum-like critters met us (or "mountain weasels" as Kinnon called them).

Albert standing on top of the pyramid at Tepoztlan... Probably at about the same spot the ancient indigenous tribes used to throw virgins off of as a sacrifice to the Gods.

Tomas standing on top of the pyramid at Tepoztlan. His shirt, "Die Happy" is all too appropriate because one step backward and it's over.

A rather deceptive waitress at the restaurant "La casa de las golondrinas" convinced Richard and Brad to order a dish called "Huanzontles" by assuring them it was like a chile relleno. Little did they know it was actually stuffed with pine needles and other lawn clippings. (Note: Richard would later name a local stray dog "Huanzontles" in honor of the dish).

Brad takes a big bite of his Huanzontles before spitting it out because it tasted terrible!

Tomas, Albert, Richard and Brad stumbled upon a tequila bar that served free samples! However, some of the samples were pretty toxic. Tomas bought a small bottle of the chile-tequila, the most lethal of them all!
